Wiard

Founded by Grant Richter in 1999 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Wiard is known for the 300 series — modules in a distinctive 6U panel format built into standard 19" racks — that reinterpreted several Don Buchla-derived “West Coast” design ideas for a DIY-accessible modular platform, including the Wogglebug (extending Buchla’s Source of Uncertainty random-voltage concept) and the Borg Filter (drawing on Buchla’s lowpass-gate design). After a hiatus, production resumed under Wessex Analogue in the UK; separately, Malekko Heavy Industry produced Eurorack versions of Richter’s designs, first under the Wiard name and later, after Richter sold the Wiard trademark, under the “Richter” brand.
