Run by Michio Teshima from Maizuru, Kyoto, Vanilla Records was an early hub for the Japanese noise scene, releasing work by nearly all of its key acts between 1989 and 1995: C.C.C.C.’s Reflexive Universe (1991), Aube’s Hydrophobia (1991) and Flood-Gate (1993), Masonna’s early Shinsen na Clitoris (1990), IncapacitantsExtreme Gospel Nights (1993–94), Violent Onsen Geisha’s Shocks! Shocks! Shocks! (1991), Monde Bruits’s Portuguese Man-of-War (1991), Solmania’s Morphine Nocturne (1992), and a 1990 Merzbow live recording from Boston.
