UCSD's electronic music studio, established 1967 by Pauline Oliveros, later renamed the Center for Music Experiment.
Established in 1967 when Pauline Oliveros co-founded UC San Diego’s Department of Music — arriving after co-directing the San Francisco Tape Music Center and heading the Mills College Tape Music Center — the studio became known for its innovative use of synthesizers, computers, and other new technologies. It was renamed the Center for Music Experiment (CME) in 1976, which Oliveros directed until 1979; she remained on the UCSD faculty until 1981.
