Recorded in September 1994 and released that October on Pete Namlook’s FAX label, The Dark Side of the Moog — dedicated to Robert Moog — paired Namlook’s ambient, sample-based production with Klaus Schulze’s sequenced analog synthesizer work at a point when Schulze, already deep into a long solo career, was embracing the newer sampling technology Namlook worked in. The pairing proved lasting: what began as a single album grew into an eleven-volume series recorded between 1994 and 2008, one of the longest-running collaborative threads in either artist’s catalog.
