Stevie Wonder
American musician whose 'classic period' albums pioneered TONTO's layered synthesizer textures, and who later co-founded Kurzweil Music Systems.
Born May 13, 1950, in Saginaw, Michigan, Stevie Wonder’s “classic period” (1972–1974) was defined by his pioneering use of TONTO, in collaboration with engineer-producers Malcolm Cecil and Robert Margouleff, giving Music of My Mind, Talking Book, Innervisions, and Fulfillingness’ First Finale their layered synthesizer textures. Separately, Wonder became an early tester and public champion of Ray Kurzweil’s Kurzweil Reading Machine after seeing it demonstrated on a news broadcast, a relationship that led him to co-found Kurzweil Music Systems with Kurzweil in 1982.
