Space Machine

Masonna's analogue electronic side project, exploring cosmic, non-rhythmic synthesis apart from his noise work.

Space Machine is a side project of Osaka noise musician Maso Yamazaki (Takushi Yamazaki, b. 1966), better known for his harsh-noise alias Masonna. Begun around 2000 after health problems forced a pause in Masonna’s activity, Space Machine set aside noise for an “analogue electronic cosmic sound” indebted to 1950s–60s electronic music — non-rhythmic, vintage-synthesizer pieces built on equipment including a diode ladder filter, released as the album Cosmos from Diode Ladder Filter (2001) and a run of EPs through 2005. Performances occasionally featured guests including Kawabata Makoto of Acid Mothers Temple; the project’s catalog was later collected in a limited box set by the Italian label Urashima.
