Initiated in 1959 by Josef Anton Riedl, who directed it through 1966, the Siemens-Studio für elektronische Musik grew out of synthesizer research at a Siemens & Halske laboratory in Gauting and was established as a studio at the company’s Munich headquarters in 1960, built around the purpose-made Siemens Synthesizer. Active until 1968, it hosted composers including Pierre Boulez, Henri Pousseur, Mauricio Kagel, and Dieter Schnebel.
