Library Person
Ronald Shannon Jackson
American drummer who passed through Albert Ayler's, Ornette Coleman's, and Cecil Taylor's bands before co-founding Last Exit.

Ronald Shannon Jackson (1940–2013) recorded with Albert Ayler in 1966–67 — Ayler, he later said, was the first leader who “really opened me up” — before joining Ornette Coleman’s electric Prime Time ensemble from 1975 to 1976, recording Dancing in Your Head and Body Meta. In 1978 he played on four Cecil Taylor albums, including Cecil Taylor Unit and 3 Phasis, before co-founding the free-jazz/noise supergroup Last Exit with Sonny Sharrock, Peter Brötzmann, and Bill Laswell in 1986, active until Sharrock’s death in 1994.
