Raster-Noton
German label formed 1999 from the merger of Rastermusic and Noton, focused on minimal, rhythmic, and experimental electronic music.
Formed in 1999 from the merger of Rastermusik — founded in 1996 by Olaf Bender and Frank Bretschneider — with Noton, Carsten Nicolai’s own sub-label, Raster-Noton became a leading Chemnitz-based label at the overlapping borders of pop, art, and science, releasing minimal, rhythmic, experimental electronic music alongside publications and installation work. In 2017 the label split back into two entities: Raster, run by Bender, and Noton, focused on Nicolai’s output.
