Ramleh

Formed in 1982 by Gary Mundy as part of the first wave of British power electronics alongside Whitehouse and Sutcliffe Jugend, Ramleh built harsh, feedback-driven noise from vocals, guitar, and electronics before disbanding in 1984. The group reformed in 1989 with Philip Best (ex-Whitehouse, Consumer Electronics) and Anthony di Franco, gradually absorbing rock structure and drums — evolving toward a noise-rock sound often compared to Skullflower (Mundy’s other group) and the Butthole Surfers — before a second hiatus around 1997 and a reunion in 2009 that continues today with di Franco, drummer Stuart Dennison, and Martyn Watts. Mundy’s own label, Broken Flag, was launched during the band’s first hiatus specifically to keep Ramleh’s catalog in print.
