Phase
The position of a periodic waveform within its cycle, and the basis for describing how two periodic signals align or diverge over time.
The position of a point within a periodic cycle, conventionally measured as an angle from 0° to 360° or as a fraction of the period. Two signals of the same frequency are in phase when their cycles align exactly, and any other constant offset between them is a phase difference — a quarter-cycle (90°) offset is quadrature, the special case used in phase-locked loops, quadrature oscillators, and stereo imaging.
