Phaedra

Recorded by the trio of Edgar Froese, Christopher Franke, and Peter Baumann, Phaedra was Tangerine Dream’s first album for Virgin Records and the record that established the group’s sequencer-driven “Berlin School” sound — its side-long title track built around a slowly drifting Moog synthesizer sequence, an effect achieved partly by accident when a faulty filter began cycling on its own. A UK Top 20 hit, it introduced electronic sequencer music to a mainstream rock audience years ahead of most of its contemporaries.
