P16.D4

German experimental/industrial group formed 1980, working in tape manipulation and musique concrète.

Founded by Roger Schönauer and Ewald Weber, P16.D4 fused dadaist irrationality with industrial and expressionist tone across a run of releases on the Selektion label — the debut Kühe in 1/2 Trauer (1984), the deconstructed-remix album Distruct (1984, joined by Stefan E. Schmidt), and the double album Nichts Niemand Nirgends Nie (1986), moving further into musique concrète and electronic improvisation. The group’s revolving membership included Ralf Wehowsky, Gerd Poppe, and Achim Szepanski, who later founded the label Mille Plateaux. P16.D4 recorded directly with Merzbow on Acrid Acme (of) P16.D4 (1989).
