On the Other Ocean

David Behrman’s debut album, released on Lovely Music in 1978, is a landmark of early computer music: flautist Maggi Payne and bassoonist Arthur Stidfole move slowly between a set of six pitches, each triggering a KIM-1 microcomputer that pitch-shifts and harmonizes electronic tones in response, so the live players and the machine continually adjust to one another in real time.
