Active in London from 1968 to 1971, the Music Improvisation Company paired Derek Bailey’s guitar and Evan Parker’s soprano saxophone and amplified autoharp with Hugh Davies’s live electronics and organ and Jamie Muir’s percussion and painting — Bailey described the electronics as extending the music “both forwards and backwards.” Recordings from a mono session on July 4, 1969, and a stereo session on June 18, 1970, were gathered on the group’s self-titled 1968–1971 (1976), released on Incus Records.
