Miles Davis

American trumpeter and bandleader; central to the development of modal jazz and jazz fusion.

Miles Davis (1926–1991) repeatedly redirected the course of jazz, from the cool jazz of Birth of the Cool through modal jazz’s Kind of Blue to the electric fusion of Bitches Brew (1970), recorded with an expanded electric ensemble and assembled from studio jams by producer Teo Macero into a foundational work of jazz fusion.
