Mego

Vienna experimental electronic label, 1994-2005, foundational to glitch and digital noise.

Founded in Vienna in 1994 by Ramon Bauer, Andi Pieper, and Peter Meininger — its name short for “My Eyes Glaze Over,” borrowed from futurist Herman Kahn — Mego released its first record, Fridge Trax by General Magic & Pita, the same year. Meininger left in 1995, replaced by Peter Rehberg, whose own Seven Tons for Free (1996, as Pita) helped lay the foundation for what became known as glitch. The label folded in 2005 after a financial breakdown; Rehberg relaunched its catalog and mission the following year as Editions Mego.
