Markus Popp (b. 1968) is a German computer musician who co-founded Oval in 1991, initially deliberately damaging CDs to generate the skipping, granular textures that helped define glitch music before continuing the project alone from 1995 on. In 1994 he also formed the duo Microstoria with Jan St. Werner of Mouse on Mars, refining the same digital-glitch language into more spacious, understated ambient electronics.
