Magnesia Nova
Merzbow's 1995 album, its track titles drawn from the writings of Athanasius Kircher.
Recorded and mixed between February and May 1995 at Merzbow’s ZSF Produkt Studio, Magnesia Nova layers overloaded, pulsating synthesizers and feedback into dense noise collages, its track titles all drawn from the writings of 17th-century polymath Athanasius Kircher — part of the album’s wider interest in intersections between Greek and Japanese civilization. Urashima’s 2022 release was the album’s first-ever vinyl pressing, a limited double LP with a 20-minute previously unreleased bonus track from the original sessions.
