Live Programming at the Pepsi Pavilion
The changing program of live performance and presentation hosted within the Pepsi Pavilion during Expo '70.
Rather than a fixed installation experienced passively, the Pepsi Pavilion hosted a changing program of live presentation for the run of Expo ‘70: resident and guest artists operated the Sound Modifier Console and lighting controls in real time, drawing on David Tudor’s library of program tapes to reprogram the Pavilion’s sound and light for each session. Pauline Oliveros and Lowell Cross were among the artists who operated the console, alongside David Tudor himself, while Ritty Burchfield served as the program’s software librarian, keeping the tape library available to whichever guest programmer was on the floor.
