Kenneth Gaburo

American composer; taught at Illinois, UCSD, and Iowa, director of the University of Iowa Electronic Music Studios.

Kenneth Gaburo (1926–1993) taught at the University of Illinois before moving to UC San Diego in 1968, where he founded the New Music Choral Ensemble, and later to the University of Iowa, where he became director of the Electronic Music Studios in 1983 and expanded its work into speech, text, and image manipulation. A pioneer of compositional linguistics, he founded the Lingua Press in 1975 and taught composers including James Tenney and Allen Strange.
