Library Person

John Blacet

American electronic engineer; founder of Blacet Research.

John Blacet founded Blacet Research in Lakeview, Oregon in 1978, initially selling kit modules to accompany his DIY synth-building articles in Synapse and Polyphony magazines. He returned to synthesizer manufacturing during the late-1990s modular revival, adopting and championing the Frac Rack module format, and continued designing and manufacturing modules until his death in 2019. He was remembered by the modular-synth community as one of the people who kept the format alive through the years it fell out of mainstream fashion.
