Hildegard Westerkamp
German-Canadian composer, World Soundscape Project member, and co-founder of the World Forum for Acoustic Ecology.
Hildegard Westerkamp (b. 1946, Osnabrück) emigrated to Canada in 1968 and, after studying music at the University of British Columbia, joined R. Murray Schafer’s World Soundscape Project at Simon Fraser University in the early 1970s. She produced and hosted the radio program Soundwalking on Vancouver Co-operative Radio (1978–79), composed Kits Beach Soundwalk, and helped found the World Forum for Acoustic Ecology in 1993, editing its journal Soundscape from 2000 to 2012.
