Hans-Joachim Roedelius
German electronic musician, co-founder of the Zodiak Free Arts Lab, Kluster, Cluster, and Harmonia.
Hans-Joachim Roedelius (b. 1934) co-founded the Zodiak Free Arts Lab in West Berlin in 1968 with Conrad Schnitzler, the venue where he met Dieter Moebius; the two, with Schnitzler, formed the improvising trio Kluster in 1969, continuing as Cluster after Schnitzler’s 1971 departure. In 1973 Roedelius and Moebius formed Harmonia with Neu!’s Michael Rother, and Roedelius began a prolific solo career in 1978 with Durch die Wüste, extending over the following decades into the long-running Selbstportrait series and more than a hundred further releases.
