GX Jupitter-Larsen

GX Jupitter-Larsen (b. Gerald Xe Jupitter-Larsen, 1959, Hollywood) has worked across punk, mail art, cassette culture, noise, and zine culture since the late 1970s, founding and remaining the sole permanent member of The Haters. His work — performances, recordings, film, and writing — returns repeatedly to entropy and decay as compositional material rather than metaphor: early Haters shows sometimes invited audiences to physically destroy the venue and equipment, and he has developed his own idiosyncratic units of measurement (polywave, the totimorphous, the xylowave) alongside an invented number system (1985). In the 1990s he served as sound designer for Mark Pauline’s Survival Research Laboratories. His films include Holes on the Neck (1994) and the feature A Noisy Delivery (2013); his three published novels dispense with conventional chapters, mixing standard language with invented words and letterforms to stand in for other concepts.
