Gil Mellé
American jazz musician turned electronic film composer, scoring the first all-synthesizer feature film score.
Gil Mellé (1931–2004) began as a post-bop baritone saxophonist on Blue Note and Prestige before moving into film and television scoring in the 1960s. His 1970 theme for Night Gallery was the first all-electronic main title for a TV series, and his 1971 score for The Andromeda Strain became the first all-synthesizer score for a feature film, across a career of more than 125 film and television scores.
