Gerry Hemingway

Gerry Hemingway (b. 1955) is an American drummer, percussionist, and composer who came up in New Haven’s jazz and free-improvisation scenes of the 1970s alongside Anthony Davis, Leo Smith, George Lewis, and Anthony Braxton, co-founding the trio BassDrumBone with Ray Anderson and Mark Helias. He held the drum chair in the Anthony Braxton Quartet for twelve years from 1983, and has appeared on over 100 recordings across jazz, chamber, and electroacoustic contexts.
