Genesis P-Orridge
British musician and performance artist (b. Neil Andrew Megson), founder of COUM Transmissions, Throbbing Gristle, and Psychic TV.
Genesis P-Orridge (born Neil Andrew Megson, 1950–2020) founded the confrontational performance-art collective COUM Transmissions in 1969 with John Shapeero, then co-founded Throbbing Gristle in 1975 as lead vocalist, becoming a formative figure in industrial music. After Throbbing Gristle’s 1981 split, P-Orridge formed Psychic TV in 1981 with Peter Christopherson and Alex Fergusson. From 1993, P-Orridge and spouse Lady Jaye (Jacqueline Breyer) underwent extensive surgical and hormonal body modification toward a shared “pandrogyne” identity, a project P-Orridge continued alone after Lady Jaye’s death in 2007. P-Orridge died in New York in March 2020.
