Frederic Rzewski
American composer and pianist, co-founder of Musica Elettronica Viva and member of Gruppo di Improvvisazione Nuova Consonanza.
Frederic Rzewski (1938–2021) was an American composer and virtuoso pianist who, after moving to Rome, co-founded Musica Elettronica Viva in 1966 with Alvin Curran and Richard Teitelbaum and performed with Gruppo di Improvvisazione Nuova Consonanza, before returning to the United States and continuing a parallel career as a composer of politically engaged concert works, most famously the piano variations The People United Will Never Be Defeated! (1975).
