Fennesz

Austrian guitarist and laptop composer, a foundational Mego artist best known for 2001's Endless Summer.

Christian Fennesz (b. 1962, Neusiedl am See, Austria) moved from guitar in the Austrian rock band Maische into laptop composition in the mid-1990s, signing to Vienna’s Mego label and processing guitar through Max/MSP and custom effects to blend melody with glitch and granular treatment. His 2001 album Endless Summer became a defining work of the label’s catalog. From 1997 he was a member of Fenn O’Berg, an improvised computer-music trio with Peter Rehberg and Jim O’Rourke that toured through 1998–99 with a stage setup of laptops alone, releasing on Mego/Editions Mego through 2010’s In Stereo.
