Faust

Assembled in Hamburg in 1970 by producer Uwe Nettelbeck from members of two existing bands, Faust relocated to a converted schoolhouse in rural Wümme to record in relative isolation, building tape-collage and studio-composition techniques directly into the krautrock format across Faust (1971), So Far (1972), The Faust Tapes (1973, sold for 48 pence and reportedly moving over 100,000 copies), and Faust IV (1973, recorded at Virgin’s English studios). Following a long hiatus, the group’s 1994 reunion album Rien was produced and mixed by Jim O’Rourke.
