Expo '70

The 1970 World Exposition in Osaka, Japan, host to the experimental Pepsi Pavilion.

Expo ‘70 was the first World’s Fair held in Japan, running from March to September 1970 in Suita, on the outskirts of Osaka, under the theme “Progress and Harmony for Mankind.” Among its corporate pavilions was the Pepsi Pavilion, commissioned by PepsiCo and designed and programmed by the artist collective Experiments in Art and Technology (E.A.T.) — one of the exposition’s most ambitious experiments in artist-controlled environments, and the encompassing historical occasion for the sound and performance systems documented separately in the Library.
