Érosphère

Composed between 1979 and 1980 and premiered as a French state commission at Paris’s Maison de Radio France on January 21, 1980, François Bayle’s Érosphère is a cyclical work of three principal movements alternating with shorter “Éros” preludes, tracing what Bayle called “the law of gravity of desire” — an arc from quotidian urban noise toward serene, expansive soundscape, several passages built from vocal recordings processed through early GRM synthesizers. First released on INA-GRM in 1982, it was reissued in 2021 incorporating the composer’s own 2009 revisions to select movements.
