Erkki Kurenniemi
Finnish inventor and composer; built the University of Helsinki's electronic music studio and the DIMI series of instruments.
Erkki Kurenniemi (1941–2017) volunteered in 1962 to build the electronic music studio for the University of Helsinki’s Institute of Musicology, which he developed into the Nordic countries’ oldest continuously operating electronic music studio. Through the 1970s he designed the DIMI series of instruments — among the first fully digital, real-time synthesizers ever built — including biofeedback-controlled designs such as the skin-conductivity-driven Dimi-S and the brainwave-driven Dimi-T.
