Shinya Tsukamoto’s 1989 cyberpunk body-horror of flesh fusing violently with metal, scored by Chu Ishikawa in his first film work — told by Tsukamoto to build the music from “only the sound of metal,” Ishikawa produced dense, industrial-percussion pieces that became inseparable from the film’s identity and launched a scoring partnership that ran through Tsukamoto’s Tetsuo II: Body Hammer (1992) and beyond.
