Synton Fénix
A 1997 analog modular synthesizer, informally 'Fénix I' once its successor arrived — the first product to carry the Synton name after the company's 1989 bankruptcy.
Eight years after Synton’s 1989 bankruptcy, designers Marc Paping and Bert Vermeulen — who had worked together on the Synton Syrinx — reunited in 1997 to build the analog modular synthesizer they wished existed, reviving the Synton name informally rather than as a reconstituted company. Handbuilt in two batches (25, then 50 more to meet demand) for 75 units total before production stopped in 2000, it became known as “Fénix I” only in retrospect, once the later Fénix II arrived.
