Jean-Claude Eloy's expansive electroacoustic work, realized 1972-73 at the WDR studio under Stockhausen's direction.
Composed for electronic and concrete sounds on magnetic tape, Shânti was realized in 1972–73 at the WDR Studio für Elektronische Musik in Cologne under the direction of Karlheinz Stockhausen, with engineer Volker Müller and assistant Peter Eötvös — and dedicated to Stockhausen. An original three-movement version runs roughly 100–105 minutes; an extended four-movement version, adding a section titled “amplification-insert,” runs 135–140.
