Recorded in Paris in 1979 under producer Martin Meissonnier and originally issued on the Japanese label Paddle Wheel, Session in Paris Vol. 1: Song of Soil documents a trio session by Japanese free-jazz percussionist Masahiko Togashi with trumpeter Don Cherry and bassist Charlie Haden, both longtime associates of Ornette Coleman’s bands. Its six tracks move between spiritual jazz, Eastern-inflected modal playing, and open, ambient-leaning improvisation. Wewantsounds reissued the album, remastered by King Records in Tokyo with expanded liner notes, in 2025.
