Released in 1985 as one of the first two titles on Barry Truax’s own Cambridge Street Records — founded that year as an alternative to commercial distribution for computer and electroacoustic music — Sequence of Earlier Heaven gathers a cycle of four pieces composed between 1981 and 1985 and organized around the I Ching: East Wind (1981) and Nightwatch (1982) pair live recorder and marimba against tape, while Wave Edge (1983) and Solar Ellipse (1984-85) extend the cycle into purely electronic and computer-generated material developed on Truax’s own systems at Simon Fraser University.
