No-Input Mixing Board
Toshimaru Nakamura's 2000 debut solo album, introducing the self-devised feedback instrument that gives it its title.
Released in 2000, No-Input Mixing Board is Toshimaru Nakamura’s debut solo album and the first recorded document of the technique that gives the record its title — routing a mixing board’s outputs back into its own inputs and shaping the resulting feedback with its own knobs and faders, with no external sound source. Its nine tracks of minimal, hypnotic electronic abstraction established the instrument that would define Nakamura’s subsequent career, including his long-running duo work with Keith Rowe beginning the following year on Weather Sky. Signal Records reissued the album on vinyl in 2023.
