Maryanne Amacher (1938–2009) composed structure-borne sound and otoacoustic-emission works exploring large-scale architectural and perceptual sound. John Cage commissioned her to compose the sonic environments for Lecture on the Weather and for his solo-voice piece Empty Words, and she performed both works alongside him from 1976 to 1984.
