Japanese synthesizer manufacturer, founded in Tokyo in 1962, from the MS-20 and Polysix to the Wavestation.
Founded in Tokyo in 1962 by Tsutomu Kato and Tadashi Osanai as Keio Electronic Laboratories — Kato ran a nightclub, and Osanai, dissatisfied with its rhythm machine, convinced him to fund a better one — the company shipped its first product, the Donca-Matic DA-20, in 1963. It entered organs in 1967, taking the “Korg” name from “Keio” plus “organ,” and synthesizers in 1973 with the Mini-Korg, going on to build the MS-20, Mono/Poly, Polysix, and Wavestation.
