Formed by Pierre Schaeffer within the Club d’Essai in 1951, the Groupe de Recherche de Musique Concrète (GRMC) formalized the research into recorded sound that had begun in 1948, gathering composers including Pierre Henry before reorganizing in 1958 as the Groupe de Recherches Musicales.
