Gilles Deleuze
French philosopher of difference, multiplicity, and becoming.
Gilles Deleuze (1925–1995) taught philosophy at the University of Paris VIII, Vincennes, for most of his career. Difference and Repetition (1968), his doctoral thesis, argues that difference is prior to identity and repetition productive rather than merely reproductive — the conceptual groundwork for his later collaborations with Félix Guattari. Beginning after May 1968, that partnership produced the two volumes of Capitalism and Schizophrenia, Anti-Oedipus (1972) and A Thousand Plateaus (1980), reworking psychoanalysis, political economy, and the organization of thought itself around concepts of desire, multiplicity, and the rhizome.
