Electronic Meditation
Tangerine Dream's 1970 debut LP, the only album to feature Edgar Froese, Klaus Schulze, and Conrad Schnitzler together.
Recorded in a rented Berlin factory space in October 1969 on a two-track Revox and released on Ohr in June 1970, Electronic Meditation is Tangerine Dream’s debut album and the only record to capture the trio lineup of Edgar Froese (guitars, organ, piano, tape, and effects), Klaus Schulze (drums and percussion), and Conrad Schnitzler (cello and violin), with uncredited additional playing from organist Jimmy Jackson and flautist Thomas Keyserling. An entirely instrumental record built from tape manipulation and free-rock instrumentation rather than synthesizers, it is the most straightforwardly krautrock-adjacent album in the group’s catalogue — both Schulze and Schnitzler left after its release, Schulze to co-found Ash Ra Tempel and Schnitzler to form Kluster with Dieter Moebius and Hans-Joachim Roedelius.
