Dieter Moebius
Swiss-born German electronic musician, co-founder of Kluster, Cluster, and Harmonia.
Dieter Moebius (1944–2015) co-founded the improvising trio Kluster in West Berlin in 1969 with Conrad Schnitzler and Hans-Joachim Roedelius; when Schnitzler left in 1971, Moebius and Roedelius continued as Cluster, relocating to the rural village of Forst and recording Zuckerzeit (1974) and Sowiesoso (1976). In 1973 the pair formed Harmonia with Neu!’s Michael Rother, releasing Musik von Harmonia (1974) and Deluxe (1975). Beyond Cluster’s own two albums with Brian Eno, Moebius recorded extensively with producer Conny Plank — Rastakraut Pasta (1980), Material (1981), Zero Set (1983) — and, late in his career, with Asmus Tietchens on the 2012 album Moebius & Tietchens.
