Conrad Schnitzler (1937–2011) co-founded the Zodiak Free Arts Lab in West Berlin, a venue that became a hub for the city’s emerging experimental-music scene, and was an early member of Tangerine Dream, contributing to their 1970 debut Electronic Meditation. In 1969, with Dieter Moebius and Hans-Joachim Roedelius, he had already formed Kluster, releasing three albums before leaving in 1971; the remaining pair dropped the K and continued as Cluster. Schnitzler went on to a prolific solo and collaborative career in electronic music, sound design, and performance art that continued until his death, including the introductory track “Silvester Anfang” for Mayhem’s 1987 debut EP Deathcrush.
