Cluster — the Berlin duo of Dieter Moebius and Hans-Joachim Roedelius, formed in 1971 when Conrad Schnitzler left the earlier trio Kluster, which he had co-founded with the pair in 1969 — became central to krautrock and ambient electronics. Brian Eno, who had already sat in with their offshoot trio Harmonia in 1974, improvised two full albums with Cluster directly: Cluster & Eno (1977) and After the Heat (1978).
