Chris Carter
British musician and electronics designer, founding member of Throbbing Gristle and inventor of the Gristleizer.
Chris Carter (b. 1953, Islington, London) worked as a television sound engineer and festival lighting designer through the late 1960s and early 1970s before co-founding Throbbing Gristle in 1975, contributing synthesizers, tapes, and electronics — including the Gristleizer, an effects unit he co-designed from a Roy Gwinn guitar-pedal circuit. After the group’s 1981 split he continued recording with Cosey Fanni Tutti as Chris & Cosey, and the two founded the label Conspiracy International; the duo renamed itself Carter Tutti around 2000. He has written technical articles for Sound on Sound magazine since 1994.
