Else Marie Pade
Danish composer; the first Danish composer of electronic and concrete music.
Else Marie Pade (1924–2016) became Denmark’s first composer of electronic and concrete music in 1954, working from the early 1950s with technicians at Danmarks Radio to produce tape works including Symphonie Magnétophonique (1958–59), a 19-minute portrait of a day and night in Copenhagen. After discovering musique concrète in 1952, she visited and worked with Pierre Schaeffer in Paris and later knew Karlheinz Stockhausen, studying composition with Vagn Holmboe and, later, twelve-tone technique with Jan Maegaard.
